A spring carnival, Easter egg hunts, pop-up markets, a candidate forum and pre-Fiesta festivities are among major events scheduled during the second weekend of April in San Antonio.

Alzafar Shriners has a Pride of Texas roadside carnival available to the public, featuring various rides, game and refreshments daily through April 9.

The Hill Country Village Homeowners Association invites Hill Country Village residents to its Easter egg roll at the City Hall campus.

The Chapel of the Incarnate Word will hold Good Friday prayer service, which features 14 organists playing the 14 movements of Marcel Dupré’s “Stations of the Cross” as part of a concert blending music and poetry.

Colombian restaurant Sabor de Sanchez invites the community to celebrate its 10th anniversary and to mark the opening of its second location, a Stone Oak restaurant, with a party at the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium. There will be Colombian food, music and dancing.

Chancla Academy Rock Fest will have performances by several local rock bands as well as 40-plus local vendors offering a variety products and services to event attendees.

Local nonprofit Culinaria presents Master of Chicken, an event where local chefs and grill masters go head to head preparing their best gourmet chicken sandwich. Guests will enjoy a complimentary cocktail, and get to sample and savor original creations and variations of the classic chicken sandwich from Project Pollo, Southerleigh Haute South, Stixs and Stone, Botika, Grille 254, Whiskey Cake and more. There will also be live music, and all ticketed guests will be automatically entered into a drawing for prizes, including a stay at the event site, La Cantera Resort & Spa.

The city of San Antonio, as part of National Poetry Month, presents Poetry for Performance, a two-day, generative workshop where attendees may focus on writing and performing poetry. Registration is required.

The town of Hollywood Park will host a City Council candidate forum, where candidates running in the May 6 elections are invited to introduce themselves to residents and answer questions about local issues. The forum may also be viewed at the city’s YouTube channel.

The Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy presents yoga story time, this time involving fun with dinosaurs. All ages of children and families are welcome. Bring a yoga mat, towel or blanket to participate. The event is weather permitting.

Manny Pelaez, San Antonio City Council member for District 8, and the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center invite the community to a blood drive challenge. Prospective donors may sign up to donate blood between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Donors will receive a Fiesta medal.

Taste of the Republic, the VIP culinary kickoff party for Fiesta San Antonio, is holding a series of weekly happy hours featuring chefs and spirits participating in the April 20 Fiesta event. This week’s happy hour includes chef Juan Carlos Bazan of Cuishe Cocina Mexicana and Patron Tequila. Each happy hour includes cocktail specials, a sample of Texas cuisine from the participating chef and the opportunity to purchase tickets to the sold-out Taste of the Republic event at The Alamo.

PechaKucha San Antonio, the global arts and culture series that hosts speakers who share their passions in a unique format, presents its next San Antonio installment at Mission Marquee Plaza, starting with a happy hour featuring local food trucks and bar service, followed by presentations from mosaicist/sculptor Oscar Alvarado; educator/entrepreneur Ashley Bird; activist Kimiya Factory; food activist Jamie Gonzalez; filmmaker/professor Randall Rudd; and Colleen Swain, the director of the city's World Heritage Office.
