This year, the Children’s Ballet of San Antonio’s presentation of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” will come complete with a holiday market and photo opportunities with Santa Claus.
The performances of the classic ballet will be held at the Lila Cockrell Theater, 200 E. Market St., at 7 p.m. Dec. 10, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 11. The story follows the journey of Clara’s beloved doll coming to life, condensed in a 90-minute show.
According to a release, CBSA’s program features performers ranging from internationally acclaimed classical dancers to gifted special needs artists ages 3-19.
CBSA is led by Vanessa Bessler, founder and former Prima Ballerina and six-time Youth America Grand Prix Outstanding Teacher award winner.
The release said CBSA has created a gateway for young artists interested in pursuing a professional dance career, with some artists having trained in renowned academies, such as the Royal Ballet School in London, the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia and the School of American Ballet in New York City.
Each ticket includes admission to an on-site holiday market where attendees can browse a selection of dress-up items, including tutus and Sugar Plum Fairy wands, Mouse King swords, and home decor items such as ornaments and nutcrackers, the release said. The market opens one hour before each showtime.
Hair and makeup stylists will offer makeovers. Additionally, Santa and cast members will be on hand for contactless photos on a first-come, first-served basis.
There will also be refreshments, including cocoa, holiday cookies, hot dogs, mini-burgers and popcorn.
Masks are required at the Lila Cockrell Theatre. Hand-washing stations and sanitizer are available on-site.
Admission proceeds and holiday market profits directly benefit the Children’s Ballet of San Antonio. For tickets and more information, visit www.childrensballetofsanantonio.org/productions-and-events.
