The 43rd CineFestival San Antonio, a Latinx film festival, has its first full day of screenings and activities on July 7. The weekend-long event features 85 films, including 22 films from San Antonio and 24 from around Texas. Times of screenings vary each day through July 10. Some screenings are free but require tickets. A $40 pass grants access to all screenings and activities. AARP San Antonio presents F.R.I.D.A. (Fabulous. Respectful. Independent. Determined. Assured.) Fest, a celebration of the Latinx community and of renowned historical figures, such as Frida Kahlo, Selena Quintanilla, Gloria Anzaldúa and Chavela Vargas. The event includes a market involving dozens of local artisans and makers, two fashion shows, a photo booth, music, lectures, culinary demonstrations, and a Frida and Diego Kahlo lookalike contest for adults and children. San Antonio Animal Care Services will begin holding a series of public forums to better understand residents’ views of local animal control and welfare issues. Each meeting will include public discussion opportunities as well as giveaways for attendees. San Antonio Animal Care Services is an open-admission shelter and one of the largest municipal animal agencies in the country, intaking close to 30,000 pets annually.
