Unofficial results had incumbent U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales narrowly winning the May 28 GOP primary runoff in Congressional District 23.

Figures from the Texas Secretary of State's election office showed Gonzales beating opponent Brandon Herrera with 50.6% of the total vote, or by 407 votes with ballots from all 362 total precincts in District 23 counted.

According to state election officials, the Republican primary runoff had 5.84% voter turnout in the match between Gonzales and Herrera.

Gonzales now advances to the Nov. 5 general election where he will face Democrat Santos Limon.

Unofficial results from the May 28 Republican primary runoff in Congressional District 23 showed incumbent Tony Gonzales leading with 50.7% of the vote.

According to the Texas Secretary of State's election office, Gonzales led challenger Brandon Herrera by 429 total votes with 85% of precincts reporting and counted.

Early voting and Election Day totals from the Texas Secretary of State's office—with 180 of 362 precincts reporting—showed Gonzales with 53% of the vote.

The winner will advance to the November general election with the victor there representing a Congressional District 23, which covers portions of north, west and south San Antonio, Shavano Park, Bexar County, the Rio Grande Valley and much of West Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Gonzales, a U.S. Naval veteran, outpaced four challengers in the March 5 GOP primary, but by falling short of the 50% threshold, he failed to win outright. Herrera, a social media personality and an entrepreneur, placed second in the March 5 primary.
