A U.S. Air Force veteran is challenging the incumbent District 4 trustee in the May 4
North East ISD elections.
David Beyer is seeking his third four-year term as the District 4 school board member, representing a district that covers the MacArthur High School cluster area. Beyer is a landscape architect who has been involved in PTA activities and presently serves on the North East Educational Foundation board.
He is being opposed by Jack Hoyle, a small-business owner, cybersecurity professional and a past PTA vice president.
Candidates were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity.
Community Impact’s attempts to reach out to Hoyle were unsuccessful.
Early voting will be held April 22-25, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; April 27, 29 and 30, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.; and April 28, noon-6 p.m. Election day polls will be open May 4 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Details on polling sites are available at

What makes you qualified to represent District 2 in NEISD?
As the current trustee, I have fought for our students, our teachers and our communities to promote excellence and innovation within our district. Our students and our community deserve and expect a learning environment that is safe, academically challenging and responsive to the needs of our diverse population.
Briefly, what are the three top issues your campaign is focusing on?
Increase student success in the classroom; be responsible with our tax dollars while maintaining exceptional programs; ensure competitive compensation, professional growth and a decision-making voice for our teachers. I also think it’s important to keep our parents, guardians and community informed with timely information.
In terms of what constituents see as the issue most important to them, what is your experience or approach to that issue that distinguishes you from your opponent?
I have volunteered at our schools in various capacities over the years and have seen firsthand the impacts board decisions have on our students. I am fair, thoughtful, and have the skillset to listen, evaluate and act in the best interest of my community and of all students.
