Voters across the San Antonio area will go to the polls March 1 to cast ballots in Democratic or Republican primaries that are being held around Texas.
Nearly 280 Bexar County polling locations will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on election day, county officials said.
Primary elections will include contests for top Texas state executive offices, including governor, as well as congressional and state legislative offices, State Board of Education positions, as well as several county and judicial posts.
According to the Texas secretary of state, a May 24 runoff election will be held for top vote-getting candidates who fail to receive more than 50% in their respective races. Winners of primary elections advance to the Nov. 8 general election.
VIA Metropolitan Transit is again offering its Ride VIA to Vote initiative, providing complimentary rides during city, state and federal election days for passengers who present a valid voter registration card to the bus or van operator on election day.
According to a VIA news release, the goal is to encourage civic engagement and participation among VIA customers and to help voters who may not have reliable transportation to the polls.
“The complimentary service will be available for regular bus service, Via Link and VIAtrans paratransit service throughout the VIA service area March 1. Registered VIAtrans customers should schedule their trip in accordance with VIAtrans policies and procedures by phone or online,” the release said.
The VIA release said customers can plan their trip to vote at a nearby voting center with VIA’s goMobile app, which is available on Apple and Android smartphones.
Nonexempt passengers age 2 and older and Via employees are required to wear a mask over their nose and mouth at all times when aboard a Via vehicle or inside a Via facility, per federal COVID-19 requirements.
The Bexar County Elections Department recorded a total voter turnout of 8.1% following the early voting of Feb. 14-25.

According to the LWV, a free voter guide is available at all public libraries around Bexar County and online at https://lwvsa.org.
