What happened
Smethurst was one of 12 contestants selected from around the nation to take part in the 10-episode reality program that aired this winter, and was hosted by chef Duff Goldman and actress Valerie Bertinelli, a news release states.
A panel of judges eliminated nine competitors over the first nine episodes with recipes based on a back-to-school theme, the release states.
In the 10th episode, Smethurst was crowned the champion with two contestants being named runners-up. Smethurst won a $25,000 prize and will be featured in Food Network Magazine, the release states.

In a statement, Smethurst said the ending of her run on “Kids Baking Championship” was rewarding and bittersweet. She also thanked her family, friends and North East ISD community members.
“I am so grateful for the way that my family, my friends, my school and the entire city of San Antonio have rooted for me during my time on KBC,” Smethurst said in a statement. “I hope that I made everyone proud and that I represented the city well. This was definitely an experience I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
