North East ISD and NASA recently signed a Space Act Agreement to formalize a partnership NEISD officials said will benefit students in the district’s new Space and Engineering Technologies Academy.

According to a June 6 news release, this signing marks the second time in history that NASA has formed a Space Act Agreement with a school district.

As part of this agreement, NASA will provide an on-site employee who will work closely with Krueger Middle School and Roosevelt High School, where SETA classes will be based, to incorporate NASA curriculum, experiences and opportunities. These experts will bring industry expertise and real-world learning experiences to campuses, the release states.

SETA is now accepting applicants ahead of the first season of operation for the open-enrollment magnet campus, which will start with sixth and ninth grade students for the 2023-24 school year and grow into a comprehensive sixth through 12th grade program.

District officials said SETA courses will be centered around the aerospace industry in the fields of aerospace engineering, aviation technology, computer science and manufacturing.
