Johnson High School students hauled in five awards at the annual BexarFest Film Festival in an April 10 event at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, North East ISD officials said.

The festival pairs San Antonio-area high school media production students with local nonprofits to create outreach materials for those organizations’ marketing efforts.

Among 14 awards given out at BexarFest, Johnson students were collectively honored for Best Storytelling, Most Creative Project, Best Still Photography and Best Portfolio, according to BexarFest organizers.

Johnson also shared the Best Behind the Scenes Award with Reagan and Stevens high schools and Southwest Preparatory School.

Eleven Johnson students worked to create still photography and a video for San Antonio Threads, an organization that provides clothes and toiletries to at-risk youth.

“They dedicated their time, effort, passion, blood, sweat and tears to write, storyboard, film, edit, compose music and develop graphic designs and still photography for this film festival,” film teacher Esther Guerra said in a statement.
