The nonprofit San Antonio Charter Moms is offering a new series of Q&A-style events designed for parents and caregivers to discuss trending education-based topics, share best practices and receive expert guidance.
The new Level Up series will focus on trending conversations from the organization’s Facebook discussion group, a news release said, adding the 11,000-member group is growing and becoming a hub for parents to help other parents with a first-person perspective and real-life experiences at area charter schools.
SACM founder and Executive Director Inga Cotton said one of the organization’s goals is to bring these discussions from the virtual world into the real world and to foster an atmosphere of direct interaction about issues such as charter school enrollment times and types of instruction available at charter schools.
“Our Facebook discussion group is a powerful, heavily relied upon tool. We want to extend that platform to offer the community peer support through valuable face-to-face interaction with both our team and other families who are in the same boat,” Cotton said in a statement. “We are here to make finding the right school for your child as easy as possible.”
Each Level Up session is free and open to the public and includes a presentation from Cotton and other parents, refreshments, and a question-and-answer session where parents can ask questions and get guidance directly from education experts at San Antonio Charter Moms, the release said.
Two Level Up sessions are coming up noon-1 p.m. April 20 at the Confluence Park Estela Avery Education Center, 310 W. Mitchell St., San Antonio, and noon-1 p.m. May 4 at Learning RX-San Antonio Northeast, 1270 N. Loop 1604 E., Ste. 1302, San Antonio.
Registration for the April 20 Level Up session will close April 18; registration for the May 4 session will end May 2.
