The owners of Bobbie’s Cafe, a longtime mom-and-pop restaurant in south San Antonio, are expanding to the north side.

What’s happening

Greg and Ana Ferris of Bobbie’s Cafe at 6728 S. Flores St., San Antonio, announced July 31 at they will move open a north central San Antonio location at 606 Embassy Oaks, the former home of Magnolia Pancake Haus.

Having originally opened in 1972, Bobbie’s Cafe serves a variety of made-from-scratch comfort foods for breakfast and lunch, including chicken fried steak eggs, pancakes, burgers, Tex-Mex dishes and pies.

The owners said the new north side location, measuring 5,300-square feet, will double the size of the original Bobbie’s Cafe, and better accommodate long lines of customers that are typically seen at the restaurant on weekends.

What else?

Ana Ferris also said they will relocate the original cafe location to a nearby south side spot at 1922 Goliad Road, San Antonio.

"Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are left with no choice but to leave our cherished south side location at 6728 S. Flores, which has been our home for 38 wonderful years,” Ana Ferris said in a statement. "This decision was incredibly difficult, and we deeply regret any inconvenience it may cause our loyal patrons. However, the good news is we have already secured a new location. There will be a temporary gap in service on the south side, but rest assured, it won't be long.”

The Ferrises said the north side location will give them a chance to share established recipes and dishes with more diners.

The owners of Magnolia relocated their flagship storefront from Embassy Oaks near Hill Country Village to 2030 N. Loop 1604 E. in 2023. The Ferrises did not reveal an estimated opening date for either new Bobbie’s Cafe location.
