Magnolia Pancake Haus, a popular local chain of restaurants focused on breakfast dishes, is turning a vacant north San Antonio bar and grill into a fourth Magnolia location.

Magnolia’s contractors began work in October at the former Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery at 2070 N. Loop 1604 E. near Gold Canyon Road.

A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said a $750,000 renovation to the existing 6,688-square-foot structure is scheduled for completion in May 2023 and will produce a larger building measuring 7,414 square feet.

After operating for a few years at Loop 1604 and Gold Canyon, San Antonio’s then-lone Tilted Kilt franchise closed its doors in early 2019. A Bennigan’s restaurant was previously housed at the same location.

Revered by customers for its large pancakes, Magnolia offers breakfast and lunch at three other storefronts.

Restaurant owners Robert and Sheila Flemings launched Magnolia Pancake Haus in 2000 across the street from their current Embassy Oaks Drive location. The Flemings opened a third Magnolia eatery in Cibolo in December 2021.
