The backstory
Owner Kenny Huynh said he’s always had an “entrepreneurial spirit” growing up as an only child to immigrant parents. While on a family trip to Korea, he was inspired to start his own business.
“I actually tried the Korean corn dogs and I felt like I had to bring it back to San Antonio and bring more diversity to the cultural food scene.”
What they offer
K-Pop Dogs offers panko-fried, potato-coated corn dogs and beef bulgogi tacos. Unlike traditional corn dogs, K-Pop Dogs uses rice flour for the batter instead of cornmeal for a sweet and savory flavor. Customers can top their corn dogs with a variety of sauces including Korean aioli, sweet chili and barbecue. A hot item is the crab rangoon corn dog which is only available until sold out, according to Huynh.
What else?
On grand opening day, K-Pop Dogs will add kimchi fries, beef and veggie rice bowls and topokki to the menu. Refuge Coffee and Beer Garden will also be having a Christmas in July event which will feature local vendors and a performance from MaKai-Pop from noon-4 p.m.
