Now, owners Michelle Perez and Martin Muñoz have opened their new brick-and-mortar restaurant at 325 W. Jones Ave., San Antonio.

Originally from Morelia in the Mexican state of Michoacán, Don Raúl established the restaurant in 1991. His daughter, Perez, and her husband, Muñoz, decided to open in San Antonio because it was a great way to introduce authentic carnitas to the Tex-Mex-saturated market, Muñoz said.

On the menu

Carnitas Don Raúl USA serves an assortment of pork cuts as well as tortas, tacos, quesadillas and more. The carnitas are traditionally braised in a large copper pot for several hours. The restaurant will also house a bar—La Bendita—serving aguas frescas, cocktails and desserts.

“It has been a long process, but we are excited to perfect our new space," Muñoz said.
