Fatburger, an iconic gourmet burger brand from Los Angeles, will open its first San Antonio brick-and-mortar restaurant May 4 on the far west side.

The background

According to a news release, May 4 will mark a grand opening for the new Fatburgers in west San Antonio alongside their sister brand, Buffalo's Express, which specializes in wings.

Having opened more than 70 years ago, Fatburgers offers a range of cooked-to-order burgers, which can be customized with toppings such as bacon, eggs, chili or onion rings. Fatburger’s menu also includes fat and skinny fries, sweet potato fries, turkey burgers, chicken sandwiches, and milkshakes.

The Buffalo’s Express menu features bone-in and boneless chicken wings accompanied by various sauces.

Representatives of Fatburgers and Buffalo's Express said the May 4 grand opening at the Westwood Vista retail center will include one free original Fatburger for the first 100 guests. Patrons will also have a chance to enter a drawing to win one of 10 free original Fatburger meals for one year, the release states.

While a Fatburger stand exists at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Fatburger corporate officials said they are excited about expanding the Fatburger and Buffalo's Express brands further into Texas with support from franchising company Brame Brands.

"We plan to aggressively expand in the state in partnership with [Brame Brands], opening a total of 100 units, 40 Fatburger and Buffalo Expresses, 40 locations of Round Table Pizza and 20 Johnny Rockets,” said Jake Berchtold, president and chief operating officer of FAT Brands’ fast casual division, in a statement.
