Husband-and-wife team Andrea and Roberto Rodriguez and Andrea’s mother, Laura Lawitz, launched Pan and Coffee in Stone Oak in spring 2021.

Originally from Mexico, Andrea said her family owned bakeries in Mexico and Roberto’s father owned coffee plantations in the Mexican state of Chiapas.

What’s on the menu?

From there, the Rodriguezes and Lawitz saw San Antonio’s growing North Side neighborhood as a prime place to focus on gourmet, organic coffee drinks, and various Mexican breads made from scratch, Andrea said.

“I thought now I can put this into running a good, locally owned coffee shop,” Roberto said of his childhood experiences joining his father on coffee plantations.

What else?

Pan and Coffee also has a range of Mexican- and American-style comfort foods, such as chilaquiles dishes, featuring lightly fried and quartered corn tortillas; tortas; turkey pesto sandwiches; and tomato basil soup.

Andrea said Pan and Coffee is for food lovers who get to choose from a plethora of meals influenced by diverse cuisines.

“We’ve had the opportunity to visit many places around the world and, when we try a food, we bring ideas to the table and say, ‘How can we offer something different here in San Antonio that people are used to enjoying or are willing to try?'” Andrea said.
