Hixon Properties on Dec. 7 announced five new restaurants slated to occupy the Make Ready Market food hall, which is scheduled to open in spring 2023 off Broadway Street on the northern edge of downtown San Antonio.
A news release said when complete, Make Ready Market will include more than 10 vendors, including Mila Coffee and Pouring with Heart. The latest additions to the food hall’s roster include spinoffs of original concepts as well as new concepts by the restaurateurs behind the following spots:
- ORDERUP, an American food concept based in San Antonio serving burgers, fries, shakes, and cookies;
- Chilaquil and El Diente de Oro, a San Antonio-based Mexican street food concept offering different dishes with seafood, beef, and pork;
- Tiny Pies, a pie shop out of Austin baking sweet pies, pot pies, breakfast pies and take-and-bake pies; and
- Four Brothers, a Venezuelan food concept focused on empanadas, arepas and other Latin American fare.
A fifth concept is a yet-to-be named beer and wine bar concept serving beer, wine, cider, frozen cocktails and paletas by restaurateur and chef Zach Garza, the release said.
Hixon Properties said Make Ready Market is designed to be San Antonio’s next culinary destination, located near Pearl and the Riverwalk, that focuses on reimagined existing buildings and communal green space.
Hunter Kingman, Hixon Properties’ vice president of acquisitions and development, said the latest announced restaurantts will bring a diverse and unique culinary experience for Make Ready Market guests of all ages.
“These additions to the food hall will complement the inaugural tenants, Mila Coffee and Idle Beer Hall and Brewery, and further bring the vision for the development to fruition,” Kingman said.
Situated on the same block as The Soto office building at 711 Broadway, Make Ready will serve as a hub of activity for the River North neighborhood, Hixon Properties said. The development blends two historic structures surrounded by expansive courtyards and will be alluring to area residents, workers, cyclists and passing pedestrians, Hixon added.
Additionally, Make Ready is a reinterpretation of the existing name of the building that will house the food hall. Originally part of the Cavender Cadillac dealership, the Make Ready building was where the premium-brand cars received their final clean and polish—or made ready—the release said.
