The gist
Currently in the construction phase, the project consists of expanding the parking lot and updating the septic system.
According to city documents, parking will be expanded on the original, decommissioned septic drain field. The existing septic system will be replaced by two individual systems, with one system for the restroom and the other for the park office.
The park office septic system upgrade will cause a minimal disturbance to the park, while the restroom system will require placing a drip field in the wildflower area and clearing another section for the installation of new tanks.
The new overflow parking will include multiple upgrades, such as adding a gravel section with a low concrete curb; planting a vegetative filter strip, new trees and a mix of native grass and wildflowers; and adding a new post and rail fence along the expanded parking lot. During construction, portable toilets will be open to the public.
Construction for the septic system began in fall 2024 and is estimated to be completed in winter 2025, and construction of the new overflow parking lot is expected to begin spring 2025 and be completed in fall 2025.
