Northeast Lakeview College representatives broke ground on a new veterans center, located at 1201 Kitty Hawk Road in Universal City Jan. 31.

About the project

The 11,000-square-foot project is being funded through state appropriations that were provided to Alamo Colleges for the 2022-23 biennium. The project was awarded $7.7 million, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

The veterans center will help veteran students with financial aid, class registration, veteran programs, benefit assistance and more. The new center will also serve as a gathering hub for students as they have outgrown its current space in the Brazos Student Union building.

The military community grows by nearly 15% each year and with the new center, more student veterans and military-affiliated families will have a designated location to receive support, Northeast Lakeview College President Veronica Garcia told Community Impact.

"This is exciting, because now we have a space where students could come together and they can congregate,” Garcia said.

Looking ahead

The center is slated to open in November 2025.
