As part of San Antonio’s 2022-27 bond project, city officials are designing a new park in the Medical Center area.

The gist

Located in the Huebner Creek Floodplain, the new park requires extra steps to begin construction, including conducting a flood study to ensure that improvements don’t impede water flow and cause additional flooding in the area.

Though the land lies within a floodplain, its close proximity to Floyd Curl Greenstreet trails and neighborhood housing makes it an ideal spot for development.

Additionally, the park will include a new section of greenway trail, running along Huebner Creek between Eckhert Road and Floyd Curl Drive. The new trail will connect Huebner Creek to Leon Valley and Medical Center trails. City funding for new greenway trails is approximately $11.92 million and includes funds for land acquisition, design services and construction.

According to city documents, construction of the park is estimated to begin in the summer of 2025 and end in spring 2027.
