Officials with the city of San Antonio and Community Labs, an organization that has been conducting communitywide COVID-19 tests, say four testing sites will close Feb. 25 due to a decline in testing numbers.

According to a city news release, more than 30 free COVID-19 test sites will remain open. A complete list of those sites can be found at http://covid19.sanantonio.gov.

Community Labs officials say the sites that will close after 6 p.m. Feb. 24 are:

  • Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Road

  • Yates Community Center, 568 Rasa Drive

  • St. Philip’s College, 1801 Martin Luther King Drive

  • Melendrez Community Center, 5919 W. Commerce St.

The release said the Community Labs locations that will remain open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays are:

  • Divine Providence Catholic Church, 5667 Old Pearsall Road

  • Alamo Colleges District Support Operations Building, 2222 N. Alamo St.

  • Wonderland of the Americas Mall, 4522 Fredericksburg Road

Community Labs President Sal Webber said closure of some testing sites should not indicate to the public that COVID-19 is no longer a threat.

According to the city of San Antonio’s COVID-19 tracking system, local public health authorities and hospitals reported 365 new positive test cases and 483 total patients hospitalized as of Feb. 21.

Local officials have urged residents to take precautions and get vaccinated or a booster shot amid a surge in contagious omicron variant cases.

“We encourage everyone to heed the advice of the Centers for Disease Control [and Prevention] and our own Metro Health authorities and get vaccinated and boosted as soon as possible,” Webber said.

“Community Labs will be here to serve our community through mass public testing as long as we are needed.”

Community Labs says it has conducted more than 60,400 screenings at nine public sites since January 2021 when the city of San Antonio, Metro Health and Bexar County asked the nonprofit organization to set up mass public testing locations to help address cases attributed to the omicron variant surge.

Community Labs says it will continue to provide PCR testing every week at more than 300 school campuses in 13 area school districts and at several local businesses.

Results from the self-administered, lower nasal swab COVID-19 tests are delivered within 24 hours, Community Labs says.

A list of vaccine pop-up clinics and testing locations can be found by visiting http://covid19.sanantonio.gov or calling 311 and selecting Option 8, city officials said.

Also, San Antonio Metro Health’s Alamodome drive-thru clinic is open from noon-8 p.m. Wednesday-Friday. The federal COVID-19 testing site at the Alamodome parking Lot C, at the corners of Montana and Cherry streets, is open 7 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and will close Feb. 28, the release said.
