With all precincts accounted for, former Children’s Court Judge Peter Sakai won the race to be the Democratic nominee for November’s Bexar County judge race.

Sakai won the race with 37,362 votes, or 58.03%, to State Rep. Ina Minjarez’s 27,025 votes, or 41.97% or votes cast in early voting and on Election Day.

Sakai worked for 26 years within the judicial system, as lawyer and for the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. He had a hand in the creation of the Bexar County Children’s Court.

Sakai will run against Republican candidate Trish DeBerry in the November election. The winner will succeed longtime Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.

Wolff announced he plans to retire at the end of the year, after a 51-year career in public service that has included serving as a San Antonio mayor and a state legislator before he was elected county judge.
