Comal ISD approves design services contract for new elementary school

The Comal ISD board of trustees approved an agreement with LPA, Inc. for architectural services relating to the design and delivery for Elementary School #22 in the Meyer Ranch development on June 26.

What's new

The new 110,000 square-feet school will serve approximately 800 students. Construction would begin in January 2026 and slated to be completed by June 2027, according to a board memo.

Evacuations underway as Guadalupe River floods in Comal, Guadalupe Counties

Flash flooding and torrential rainstorms have caused evacuations and multiple road closures around Guadalupe and Comal counties.

What we know


The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the Guadalupe River that changed from minor to moderate severity July 5 at 2:29 p.m.

Individuals living along River Road in New Braunfels were being evacuated as early as 11 a.m. July 5, according to a Facebook post from the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.

Homestead exemptions aim to alleviate property tax burden in Comal County


New developments like Veramendi have brought new homes to the Northwest area of New Braunfels. Tax revenue comes from existing value or new value, and for growing communities like New Braunfels, new construction plays a significant role in the existing tax base, New Braunfels Assistant City Manager Jared Werner said.

The overview

Population growth and the housing surge Central Texas experienced between 2020 and 2022 are two contributing factors to the increase in property and home values in and around New Braunfels, officials with the Comal Appraisal District said.

In Comal County, multiple entities—like New Braunfels ISD, Comal ISD, the county and the city of New Braunfels—contribute to the overall tax rate. However, that number can be attenuated with state legislation and homestead exemptions.
