A business in North San Antonio recently went under new ownership.

Zooming in

Monarch Mail is an independent pack and ship store and can ship packages through the United States Postal Service, FedEx and the United Parcel Service. The business also offers mailbox rental and notary services to customers. Additionally, the business rents U-Haul trucks and trailers.

On March 17, local Thomas Hernandez took over ownership of the business alongside his wife, Beth Hernandez. Thomas Hernandez said they were inspired to take over the venture to build a business centered around community.

Since taking over ownership, Thomas Hernandez said they have begun offering a free library book exchange, which was a suggestion from a customer, and began printing t-shirts and hats in-house.

Quote of note

“There haven't been a lot of community-centric type businesses [since COVID-19,] and so I feel like it's a great place for us to connect with people, and for people to connect with each other,” Thomas Hernandez said. “We have free coffee, free tea, free filtered water, with the idea that it would be a place where people could come and meet their neighbors and just be together again.”
