The Mermaid Cafe, a disabled-first coffee shop, is set to open on Blanco Road in 2025.

The gist

The cafe was founded by Leah Meyer and is owned by her parents Karen and Drew Meyer, with the mission of providing meaningful employment for individuals with disabilities. The cafe will serve coffee and gluten-free baked goods.

In order to make the workplace accessible to a wide variety of workers, the cafe will use equipment which requires less fine motor skills, fewer steps when completing tasks and pictures for those who cannot read.

Leah Meyer originally discovered her passion for cooking during her childhood, which prompted her to launch her own cooking show on YouTube.
