Spec’s will celebrate five years at its Legacy location on North Loop 1604 in October.

Spec’s offers a wide variety of wines, liquors, beers and seltzers as well as fine foods like meats, jams, cheeses, salsas and snacks. The liquor store also has a deli that serves sandwiches like the Pastrami Melt and the California Dreamin’ sandwich.

Founded in Houston in 1962 by Carroll B. “Spec” Jackson and Carolynn Jackson, the store is named after Carroll’s nickname, which refers to his spectacles. The chain expanded into selling food in the late '80s and by 2002 it had 24 stores and 475 employees in the Greater Houston area. In 2007, Spec’s began expanding to other cities in Texas.
