Pelicana

The first San Antonio Pelicana franchise recently opened near Shavano Park, offering Korean fried chicken seasoned with more than 20 spices. Pelicana serves whole or half fried chicken, as well as wings.

According to company representatives, Pelicana originated in South Korea in 1979 as a small chicken restaurant whose popularity grew and spurred franchising. Pelicana now has more than 3,000 locations worldwide, including 28 U.S. stores.SA Flavor

SA Flavor, a local company that creates medals mainly for Fiesta San Antonio season, relocated from a south side location to The Strand retail center this winter.

Representatives with SA Flavor said the brick-and-mortar shop, alongside their online store, offers a variety of medals that are primarily custom-ordered, designed and manufactured for purchase to celebrate Fiesta season each spring.

But company representatives also said medals are available for production and distribution year-round, with proceeds benefiting nonprofits and charitable causes as what happens during Fiesta.

Additionally, SA Flavor offers Fiesta and other gift items and merchandise—such as shirts, pins, stickers and hats—from other vendors that celebrate San Antonio’s culture, company officials said.
