Here are some businesses and organizations that have recently opened, expanded or been in the news in the Stone Oak and North San Antonio area.
  • The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio has expanded its evening hours from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Aug. 2. This includes browsing the museum; exploring educational trunks and traveling exhibits; and at 6:30 p.m. listening to a presentation from a child of a survivor, also known as a second-generation survivor.
  • University Health officials unveiled a new Women's and Children's Hospital on July 21. The 300-bed hospital is connected to the Bexar County-funded hospital system’s main campus at 4502 Medical Drive in the South Texas Medical Center in San Antonio. It includes a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit and a Level IV maternal center. The hospital is slated to open for patients in August.
  • Freebirds World Burrito held a grand opening July 25 for its seventh San Antonio-area restaurant at 24200 W. I-10, Ste. 101. The new Freebirds will be located in the Leon Springs community near Boerne Stage Road.
  • Blanca Aldaco, the owner of Stone Oak restaurant Aldaco’s Mexican Cuisine, received the 2023 Texas Restaurant Association’s Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year Award at the annual Lone Star Bash earlier in July in Houston. A Mexican native, Aldaco and her family opened Aldaco’s Mexican Cuisine in 1989 near downtown San Antonio. They relocated the restaurant a short distance to a larger downtown space in 1999.
