Dogtopia of San Antonio-Stone Oak, the second local franchise for the chain of doggy day care centers, opened its doors Dec. 19 near The Legacy retail center at 2106 E. Sonterra Blvd.
In addition to doggy day care offerings, Dogtopia provides canine boarding and spa services. Amenities include an extensive evaluation process; rubberized flooring; and a climate-controlled heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, a news release said.
At Dogtopia, dogs are separated by size and temperament into one of three playrooms to make sure all dogs have a positive day care experience, the release said.
Dogtopia’s playroom attendants, dubbed Canine Coaches, go through a custom curriculum program designed by a registered canine behaviorist.
The custom curriculum has been approved for continuing education credits by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.
Team members must also complete rigorous training, designed by a canine behaviorist, on dog body language, behavior and health, the release said.
To attend day care, all dogs must go through a thorough meet-and-greet session to ensure the safety of all of their dogs, Dogtopia officials said. A meet and greet includes an overview of the dog’s paperwork, history and health; a nose-to-tail assessment to identify any sensitivities to touch that a dog might have; and more.
According to the release, Dogtopia’s staff are trained to concentrate on making sure a dog derives a range of positive benefits, including socialization skills, exercise, behavioral training and an ability to release pent-up anxiety.
Dogtopia’s other services include boarding and grooming. Dog parents can schedule their pups to have a bath or grooming session during day care or during their overnight stays, the release said.
The first Dogtopia of San Antonio franchise opened in early 2022 on DeZavala Road. More Dogtopia franchises are in the works around the San Antonio area, including the Alamo Ranch neighborhood, company representatives said.
