Workforce Solutions Alamo in San Antonio announced Dec. 13 it will sponsor a workforce leadership academy in partnership with the Washington, D.C., nonprofit Aspen Institute.

According to a news release, the academy brings leaders—recognized as academy fellows—from across the local workforce ecosystem together for a yearlong series of retreats, workshops and action learning projects.

Fellows work with leading practitioners throughout the country as they deepen networks; strengthen systems leadership skills; apply race, equity and systems change frameworks to their work; and increase understanding of effective strategies and programs, the release said.

Academy alumni become part of the Aspen Institute’s Economic Opportunity Fellows Network, joining fellows from 14 previous academies in 11 cities in the United States and Canada.

Sheila Maguire, senior fellow with the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program, said a high-capacity, responsive and agile local workforce ecosystem is critical to increasing the chances of sustainable and equitable economic recovery.

“The academy provides leaders with the rare opportunity to think and act strategically across silos to advance outcomes for workers and businesses,” Maguire said in a statement.

Fellows will be selected in a competitive application process. Workforce Solutions Alamo and its partners encourage senior-level managers from across the workforce ecosystem of nonprofit organizations, business associations, union-based training efforts, public agencies and community colleges who have the authority to implement changes to apply.

Applications will open Jan. 17, 2023. Information on how to apply will be announced and made available in early January, the release said.

Workforce Solutions Alamo CEO Adrian Lopez said Workforce Solutions Alamo is honored and proud to partner with the prestigious Aspen Institute through the workforce leadership academy.

“The academy aligns with our vision to lead the most integrated community workforce ecosystem dedicated to developing innovative and impactful solutions that bridge local employers with qualified, skilled job seekers,” Lopez said.
