After a Labor Day weekend hiatus, the Texas Department of Transportation will again resume nightly closures of Loop 1604 at the I-10 intersection and at US 281.

What to expect

The nightly closures of Loop 1604 at the I-10 intersection begin Sept. 3 and last through Sept. 7. The closures will last each day from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

Additionally, alternating nightly closures will occur at the US 281 and Loop 1604 intersection beginning Sept. 3 and lasting through Sept. 21. Those closures will also be from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

The specifics




According to a news release from the agency, all of the following closures are subject to change and weather-permitting.

Loop 1604 at I-10
  • Eastbound traffic will be diverted onto the Vance Jackson exit ramp and detour along the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road. Traffic will be able to re-enter the highway at the Lockhill Selma entrance ramp.
  • Drivers traveling westbound on I-10 wishing to merge onto Loop 1604 eastbound will be diverted onto the I-10 frontage road at the exit ramp just north of UTSA Boulevard.
  • Eastbound I-10 drivers wishing to continue east on Loop 1604 will take the frontage road exit south of La Cantera Parkway and continue to the Loop 1604 eastbound diversion.


Loop 1604 at US 281
  • Westbound Loop 1604 traffic will exit for US 281 and stay on the Loop 1604 frontage roads until the first open entrance ramp west of Stone Oak Parkway.
  • Eastbound Loop 1604 traffic will exit at US 281 and maintain course on the Loop 1604 frontage road until the entrance ramp east of Gold Canyon Road.
  • Southbound US 281 traffic looking to access eastbound Loop 1604 will exit Redland Road and follow the US 281 frontage road through to the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road.
  • Northbound US 281 traffic looking to access Loop 1604 eastbound will use the exit ramp before Henderson Pass.

As part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, closures will continue along various segments of the road in the coming months. According to a TxDOT spokesperson, the $1 billion project that began in May 2021 reached its midpoint in May 2024 and is set for completion in 2027, as previously reported by Community Impact.
