Morton Preserve, a 288-acre area aimed at protecting endangered species near the Guadalupe River in Comal County, is now open for public access.

The details

The preserve has been in the works since the county acquired it in 2008 with funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, according to a Nov. 1 news release from the county.

The preserve is a sanctuary for several endangered species, including the Golden-Cheeked Warbler, according to the news release.

Public access is available from September through February each year, but visitors need to make reservations due to the ecological sensitivity of the area, as per the release.
