New Braunfels city officials are planning to move forward with renovations on the Landa Park Aquatic Complex.

The details

The Olympic pool, bathhouse and other facilities need updates, as the last major renovation occurred in 2008, said Scott McClelland, assistant transportation and capital improvements director at an Oct. 21 special City Council meeting. The pool infrastructure dates back to 1968.

The city conducted several assessments, including an Americans with Disabilities Act assessment, bathhouse condition report and pool infrastructure assessment.

McClelland said some issues include:
  • ADA accessibility
  • Outdated plumbing and electrical systems
  • General wear and tear
The breakdown

The council approved $2.75 million for the project as part of the FY 2024-25 budget, with $1.3 million allocated specifically to the Olympic pool renovation, McClelland said. The remainder will go toward the bathhouse and spring-fed pool.

McClelland said the project is divided into three priority levels:
  • Priority 1: Code, accessibility and safety-related upgrades
  • Priority 2: Bringing the facility up to industry standards
  • Priority 3: Optional upgrades or "nice-to-have" features, if funds remain
What’s next?

The goal is to complete the renovations and have the facility open by Memorial Day 2025, McClelland said.

A construction contract will be awarded soon, with additional funding for the bathhouse and spring-fed pool renovations being addressed later this year, McClelland said.

This project will be presented again to the City Council on Oct. 28 for approval.
