Changes to New Braunfels' solid waste and recycling services will take effect the week of Sept. 30, after being approved by the New Braunfels City Council in August.

What’s changing?
  • The monthly residential garbage collection rate will remain at $13.40, unchanged since 2010. However, 2,600 residents will see a change in their garbage collection day, according to a Sept. 19 news release from the city.
  • The monthly recycling and green waste rate will remain at $4.26 per month. All residents will now follow a biweekly collection schedule, with some households receiving a new collection day as well.
  • Commercial customers will see a new rate starting Oct. 1. Businesses using services less frequently will have lower rates, while those with more frequent service will have higher rates. This structure will be phased in over three years, with rate adjustments each Oct. 1 through 2026.
The biweekly schedule was designed to cut costs related to labor, fuel, and equipment, according to previous reporting from Community Impact. The city expects these changes to save around $300,000 annually, said Matthew Eckmann, assistant director of public works for the city.

What's next?

Residents can find their new collection days by downloading the updated route maps and schedules from the city’s website.

An outreach campaign, including a waste management app, will also offer information about collection schedules and recycling guidelines.
