Wurstfest—a nonprofit that started in 1961 to preserve the community’s heritage through tourism and commerce—returns for its 63rd year in New Braunfels.

What you need to know

The festival opens Friday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m., with opening ceremonies and the annual "biting of the sausage" slated for 5:30 p.m. in Wursthalle.

This year, the 10-day celebration will run Nov. 1-10 and feature over 40 entertainment acts from musicians all over the world across five stages, according to a news release.

Performances include Grammy-award-winning polka musician Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra, Grammy-nominated accordionist Alex Meixner, and Munchholzhauser Blaskapellaa, among other artists.

“Wurstfest is the best Bavarian-style entertainment at any festival in Texas, if not in the country,” said Wurstfest Opa Frank Suhr, who oversees the entertainment lineup.

What they offer

Wurstfest features over 20 food vendors that offer German-inspired food and drinks, such as the Wurst-n-Taschen, which is bratwurst on pita bread and topped with sauerkraut. The event will also have amusement rides and artisan shops. The vendors consist of various nonprofit organizations.

Wurstfest welcomes over 200,000 visitors over its 10-day span at Landa Park. Online tickets are on sale Sept. 1-Oct. 31.
