Q&A: Meet the candidates running for Texas House District 44 in the Democratic primary

What would your top priorities be if elected?

Texas used to be affordable, but healthcare, car insurance, light bills, and childcare costs are skyrocketing because state leaders care more about the governor’s agenda than the needs of our community. I’m running because we deserve better representation. This job is about listening, then going out and solving problems.

What are the biggest challenges facing this district?

Underfunded schools, explosive growth, water shortages, and cost of living increases. The problem is, if we reelect someone who’s more interested in fighting for his ideology than his constituents, we won’t tackle these issues. I’ve got the character and backbone to stand up and represent the people of our district.

How do you plan to address these issues?

Since 2023 I’ve visited every corner of the district to meet sheriffs, police chiefs, superintendents, nonprofit leaders, mayors, and anyone who wants to talk about the needs of their community. I want everyone to see that I’m running to solve our problems and advocate for our needs - period.

If elected, what do you plan to do to ensure Texans have enough water as the state continues to grow?

Texas needs to adapt to how water is supplied, used, and valued. In addition to developing new sources (greywater recycling, rainwater capture, desalination) and using it more efficiently (fixing municipal water lines before they leak), we’ll also need to question ‘norms’ like plush lawns and supplying thirsty data centers.

What would your top priorities be if elected?

I’ll fight to give every child a quality education, support our veterans and their families, expand access to affordable healthcare, and reduce property taxes for working families and retirees. I’ll invest in infrastructure, including strengthening our energy grid and water systems to support long-term growth and development across our district.

What are the biggest challenges facing this district?

We are facing a serious cost of living crisis. Households across the district are struggling to keep up with daily expenses, with everything from groceries to healthcare to childcare. Our water and energy systems are failing. Our education system is being systematically defunded through the school voucher program.

How do you plan to address these issues?

I’ll strengthen public education, expand Medicaid, protect veterans, and cut property taxes while using alternative sources of state revenue to keep essential services fully funded. I’ll create a Working Texans Credit so full-time work leads to a living wage. I’ll invest in roads, affordable energy, and local water control.
