The New Braunfels ISD board of trustees approved a 2024-2025 compensation plan May 13, which includes a 4% raise and a $10 increase in the district's contribution to employee health insurance.

The details

The plan aligns with the district's philosophy to offer competitive pay, ensure internal equity, reward tenure and manage expenses effectively, said Kathy Kenney, chief human resources officer for NBISD.

Three raise options were presented—along with market adjustments and stipends—aiming to balance competitiveness with fiscal responsibility, Kenney said. The options considered were:
  • A 3% increase that would cost the district $2,293,866
  • A 3.5% increase that would cost the district $2,453,195
  • A 4% increase that would cost the district $2,760,430
The new starting teacher salary at NBISD will be $56,000 and will be effective in the 2024-25 school year, according to board documents.

"We want to provide competitive pay to attract and retain highly qualified personnel," Kenney said.

The district currently allocates $331.53 towards each employee's health insurance premium. In response to insurance provider TRS ActiveCare's announcement of a 13.3% increase in rates for the 2024-25 school year, Kenney proposed a $10 increase in the district's insurance contribution.

The total cost to the district for the insurance, Kenney said, will be $105,240.
