New Braunfels ISD approved the purchase of 10 passenger buses at a total cost of $1.57 million at an April 8 school board meeting.

The 71-seater buses will be purchased through 2021 bond funds, said Paul McLarty, chief financial officer of New Braunfels ISD, at the meeting.

The cost per bus was noted to be $157,000, which is higher than previous years, which were around $105,000, McLarty said.

The board also approved the purchase of four white fleet vehicles totaling $214,909, using a combination of general funds and American Rescue Plan Act Homeless II Grant funds, McLarty said.

The vehicles, according to supporting documents on the New Braunfels ISD website, include:
  • 2024 Ford F350: $54,247
  • 2024 Ford Econoline: $67,497
  • 2024 Ford Expedition: $58,165
  • 2024 Chevrolet Traverse: $35,000
The white fleet vehicles will be used for purposes including program expansion in the Career and Technical Education program, maintenance department needs, and transportation department requirements, according to supporting documents from the New Braunfels ISD website.
