Oakwood Church announced a $29 million expansion project to increase worship space and classrooms for its growing congregation in New Braunfels.

The details

The church is building the new 52,000-square-foot facility to accommodate the growing community in the "fast-growing city of New Braunfels," said Ray Still, senior pastor at Oakwood Church.

The current worship center seats 850-900 people, with overflow seating for 300 more, but it faces overcrowding during special services like Christmas and Easter, Still said.

"Our worship services are full, and we need more capacity for everyone that comes here, and we need more children's space for the children's area," Still said.

The new facility, Still said, will feature:
  • An 1,800-seat auditorium
  • 7 additional classrooms for the children’s ministry
  • 4 additional classrooms for the special needs ministry
  • 602 additional parking spaces
The existing worship center will be repurposed for fellowship and special events, Still said.

The timeline

The church is currently in the permitting phase, Still said, and hope to have a groundbreaking in spring 2025.

The construction is expected to take 18 months to two years to complete, Still said.

Funding for the project will come through the Bold Mission campaign, which asks congregants to make a three-year commitment starting in February 2025.
