The details
The project, developed by Collett & Associates and the Alexander Family, is a response to Seguin and Guadalupe County's growing population and demand for more retail options, said Mike Robbe, partner at Collett & Associates, in an Aug. 18 news release.
Construction is set to begin by the end of 2024 at I-10 and Jay Road, with plans for most stores to open by fall 2025, according to the release.
“The Seguin Crossing development will be the largest new retail project in Seguin in over 30 years, symbolizing the tremendous growth and opportunity our city is experiencing,” said Josh Schneuker, executive director of the Seguin Economic Development Corporation.
What they're saying
Seguin is on track to grow by 72% by 2030, said Seguin City Manager Steve Parker at the Austin-San Antonio Growth Summit on Sept. 17 in New Braunfels.
Seguin has been attracting industrial and manufacturing industries, with 14% of all industrial manufacturing jobs in the San Antonio region located in Seguin, Parker said.
The focus for Seguin, Parker said, is on drawing more retail and restaurant options to the city, as many residents currently travel to neighboring cities like New Braunfels and San Marcos for those amenities.
"We have $1.4 billion in retail leakage, but now, over the last year, Seguin has been leading the region in retail sales tax collections, year over year," Parker said "We feel like we're in a very sweet spot...we have a lot of momentum and we have a community that supports growth."
