The Weighted Plate to reopen in downtown New Braunfels following recent closure
A local bar, grill and live music venue that recently closed in New Braunfels is planning to make a comeback early next year.
The Weighted Plate will be reopening at a new location at 118 S. Union Ave., in downtown New Braunfels in early 2026, according to a Facebook post by owner Cody Teer.
The business had closed its previous location on FM 1102 in November due to the reduced ability for customers to access the venue, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Judson ISD approves calendar for the 2026-27 school year
The Judson ISD board of trustees unanimously approved the district’s 2026-27 academic calendar Dec. 18.
According to the approved calendar, the first semester of the 2026-27 school year will be Aug. 12 through Dec. 18.
The first semester of the 2026-27 year will have the following staff and student holidays:
- Sept. 7
- Oct. 9, 12
- Nov. 11; 23-27
- Dec. 21-Jan. 1

Boerne Buc-ee's development agreement updated, specifying store design
Following months of community discussion and concern, the Buc-ee’s development agreement is being updated.
Boerne City Council on Oct. 27 had an executive session discussion regarding agreement negotiations, followed by amendments that clarify store size, the number of jobs and compliance with city design standards.

The Texas Department of Transportation has one ongoing project in the city of New Braunfels that focuses on improving safety and highway operations and eliminating roadway hazards, according to the department’s project tracker.
Meanwhile, Comal County officials have three bridges in the works, one of which officially opened to the public Dec. 15, county officials said.

Kendall County moves forward with $11.25M Proposition A property purchase
Kendall County Commissioners on Dec. 23 approved the purchase of conservation easements and a property to be conserved through the use of Proposition A funds, which were approved by voters in 2022 to support countywide conservation efforts.
Around 310 acres of property at Guadalupe River Ranch were approved for purchase by county commissioners for around $11.25 million from Proposition A funds. Costs and total acreage will be specified following an inspection and survey period.
Proposition A Committee Chairman Rusty Busby told county commissioners that demolition of structures was required on the property before the purchase goes through. The county will hold $60,000 in escrow until the demolition requirements are met.
