A new hotel named Hacienda del Rio opened near the Gruene Historic District at 1273 River Terrace, New Braunfels, in June.

The hotel takes the place of the old Gruene Outpost River Lodge.

The revitalized building was inspired by Spanish colonial architecture as both the interior and exterior feature locally themed decor and furnishings. French Cowboys, an Austin-based property management company, took over the location in April 2023 and began the renovation, according to a news release.

All 48 rooms in the hotel were completely remodeled, with diverse options from a standard king suite for two and a family suite that sleeps six, the news release states.


What’s new

Hacienda del Rio has a pool, pickleball and basketball courts as well as a beach volleyball area. The hotel is also equipped with a conference room, private bar and larger outdoor event area.

Co-founder of French Cowboys Dylan Petrich said that the new hotel will allow families to enjoy a top destination in the Hill Country “without breaking the bank.”

“Hacienda captures our vision of creating a vibrant, social place where people can kick back, enjoy the outdoors, and grab a drink,” Petrich said in the release.


The property also has direct private access to the Guadalupe River where guests can rent rafts to enjoy the water.
