A family affair
The pottery studio—founded in 1982 by Dee and Terry Buck—is nestled in the heart of New Braunfels' Gruene Historic District. In 2008, the Bucks welcomed their niece and her husband Angie and Kyle White, into the family business. The Whites took over ownership of The Barn Pottery, continuing the family’s legacy.
“We are very fortunate to continue the family business,” Co-owner Angie White said. “It's a real nostalgic feeling seeing everything they’ve built together here.”
The Whites met in high school while taking photography and art. Since then both have become skilled potters sharing their love of art and craftsmanship.
A closer look
Using a traditional brick kiln and electric kiln, The Barn Pottery sells a variety of unique, functional ceramics which are all handmade onsite. The main gallery showcases an array of ceramic items, such as wine cups, trays, soap dishes, vases, soap dispensers, mugs and other decorative pieces.
“We make our stuff substantial enough that you could feel like you can use it every day,” White said.
The back of the store also features a second gallery which displays and supports the work of other local artists and potters.
