First Phase of School Street, Johns Road intersection improvements to begin in July
Beginning the first week of July, the intersection of Johns Road and School Street is expected to have varying closures for the first phase of a roundabout installation.
Communications Director Chris Shadrock said the Engineering and Mobility Department is taking a two-phased approach to the roundabout project at Johns Road and School Street, and the work has been scheduled to align with Boerne ISD’s summer breaks to reduce disruption as best as possible.
The first phase will focus on utility relocation work, resulting in closures at the intersection for around one month. Phase two is expected to be completed in summer 2026, which includes the actual construction of the roundabout. Construction is expected to take approximately 10-12 weeks.
Boerne City Council reviews mobility improvement process
As the city of Boerne continues to grow, residents have voiced concerns about increased traffic, pedestrian paths and other mobility challenges.
During the May 13 City Council meeting, city staff reviewed the process of developing mobility improvements.
Director of Engineering and Mobility Jeff Carroll said the city maintains 83 miles of roadway, representing 232 lane miles.
While the city maintains streets within the city limits, TxDOT maintains the major thoroughfares and roadways that run through the community, including Main Street, West Bandera Road and River Road. Due to TxDOT operating these roads, intersections such as River Road and Herff Road must be supported by the organization.
“Anything and everything to do with this intersection is up to TxDOT,” Carroll said.
Northbound lane of Fair Oaks Parkway to be closed June 9-13
From June 9-13, the northbound lane of Fair Oaks Parkway between Pimlico Lane and Dietz Elkhorn will be under construction.
Construction will be for a mill and overlay, which is a street rehabilitation technique that requires the removal of the top layer of a street. After the top layer is removed, a new layer of asphalt pavement is put in its place, according to the city website.
During construction, traffic will be redirected from Pimlico Lane to Riva Ridge Drive, then to Sendero Ridge, Windermere Drive and turning west onto Dietz Elkhorn Road.
Also during construction, drivers turning north onto Fair Oaks Parkway from Pimlico Lane will be redirected, and Windemere Drive will be closed to through traffic attempting to access Fair Oaks Parkway. Access to Fair Oaks Plaza will remain open.
