The backstory
As part of the bond, Proposition A designated $23 million to street and mobility projects throughout the city.
Boerne City Council recently awarded contractor Bennett Paving $1.17 million—along with an additional 5% of the total for potential changes that might occur—to reconstruct West Kronkosky Street, West Blanco Road and Parkway Drive at a Dec. 10 meeting. Bennet Paving was the lowest of three bids for the project. The 2022 bond allocated $1.4 million for these roads.
Sorting out details
Jeff Carroll, director of engineering and mobility for the city of Boerne, said work on these roads would be a “full depth reclamation.”
“They're going to come in with the machine and basically cut out all of the existing street, and then we'll rebuild that street completely as a new street,” Carroll said. “That should begin happening in the month of February. ... Those will go from three of our worst streets to probably three of our better streets in town.”
Work is expected to take about four weeks, Carroll said.
Zooming out
Carroll said utility work will also occur around the spring break timeframe for Boerne ISD at the intersection of Johns Road and School Street, an area designated for intersection improvements and possibly a future roundabout in the bond.
Planning is also still in progress for the complete redesign of Alder Street. Carroll said that project will involve adding a continuous center turning lane, sidewalks, curbs and drainage improvements. Work on Alder Street could begin later this year, Carroll said.
