A public hearing for the Kendall County proposed tax rate for fiscal year 2025-26 is planned for Aug. 26, giving residents the opportunity to speak on county taxes.

Breaking it down

The proposed rate for the fiscal year is planned to be $0.3770 per $100 valuation, which is an overall decrease from the rate of FY 2024-25.

When approving the tax rate, the court is legally required to post the no-new-revenue rate, or NNR, and the voter-approval rate. The NNR was posted at $0.373981 per $100 valuation, meaning this is the rate at which the county would receive a similar revenue to the previous tax year.

The voter-approval rate is the highest rate the county could set before needing a tax rate election. This rate was set at $0.377110 per $100 valuation.

What they’re saying

County Judge Shane Stolarczyk said the proposed rate is a reduction of around half a cent compared to the previous year.

Tax rates are dependent on the valuation of a given property, meaning property owners can either see an increase or decrease in taxes paid to the county depending on annual changes to appraisal values.

“This court for the first time in 25 years is going to be able to run our operations without using our savings,” Stolarczyk said.

Precinct 2 Commissioner Andra Wisian said she is thankful for the hard work of the Commissioners Court in developing the upcoming budget. Wisian stated that the tax rate will help support vital city services that the growing county population depends on.

“We provide to you the taxpayer,” Wisian said. “I believe that no-new-revenue tax rate would be detrimental to the county because it wouldn’t let us provide those vital services.”

The tax rate public hearing is planned for the Aug. 26 meeting, held at 201 East San Antonio Avenue, Boerne.
