The Fair Oaks Ranch City Council approved the first reading of an annexation agreement for the Post Oak development June 19.

This does not annex the property, with city council considering the second reading July 3.

How we got here

On May 20, City Council approved an update to the development agreement, limiting the development to 278 lots rather than the originally planned 635 lots. The area will be developed by Bitterblue, Inc.

While the development will use city water, it will not use wastewater; instead, it will use septic systems following Kendall County regulations.

What they’re saying

During the public hearing, Resident RW Simpson opposed the annexation of the development due to concerns about providing water to the planned homes.

“Wells in Kendall County are going dry, Canyon Lake has reached record low water levels,” Simpson said. “Proceeding with a large-scale development during this critical time is not only irresponsible, but dangerous for the long-term sustainability of our community and natural resources.”

Council members Jonathan Swarek and Ruben Olvera said that the city would have enough water to sustain the development, since it was originally planned for around 600 lots.

Moving forward

City Council unanimously approved the first reading of the resolution. The final reading of the annexation is scheduled for July 3, and on Aug. 14, the Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on the Future Land Use Map amendment and Zone Designation ordinances.
