Following the May 27 Boerne City Council meeting, council members and the mayor's seat will now be up for election every three years.

The details

In the May 3 election, four City Charter amendments were on the ballot, with one extending elected official term limits from two to three years.

To accommodate this change, city council approved a resolution to stagger the election cycle, holding an election each year. During the annual election, two seats will be on the ballot.

The following seats will be up for election in the coming years:
  • 2026: Districts 1 and 3
  • 2027: Districts 4 and 5
  • 2028: Mayor and District 2
  • 2029: Districts 1 and 3
  • 2030: Districts 4 and 5
  • 2031: Mayor and District 2
What else?

During the election, Mayor Frank Ritchie retained his seat and Joe Bateman became the District 2 council member. District 4 council member Bret Bunker ran uncontested during the election. Ritchie, Bunker and Bateman were sworn in on May 27.

City council also selected District 1 council member Ty Woloson as the mayor pro tem, who serves as the mayor in case of the mayor’s absence.
