With all Kendall County precincts reporting unoffical results from the May 3 election, current Mayor Frank Ritchie leads the mayoral race and Joe Bateman leads in votes in the City Council, District 2 race. All charter amendment propositions were supported by voters.

Ritchie received 1,022, or 75.65% of votes, while opponent Laura Haning received 329, or 24.35% of votes. Bateman beat incumbent Sharon Wright with 179, or 53.75% of votes.

Each of the propositions were approved by voters with more than 65% of votes in support, meaning the following charter amendments were approved:
  • Proposition A: Increase City Council members and mayor term from two to three years.
  • Proposition B: Remove language in the charter about other elected officials in the city, as there are no other elected positions other than City Council.
  • Proposition C: Change the procedure for filling City Council vacancies to comply with state law for cities with three-year terms, as opposed to the current two-year terms, requiring that City Council appoint a council member if a vacancy occurs in a position with less than 12 months remaining.
  • Proposition D: Require a review of the city charter every 10 years, reviewed and approved by the voters.

Early vote totals are in for the May 3 election, showing current Mayor Frank Ritchie leading the race for Boerne Mayor and Joe Bateman leading the race for City Council, District 2, according to preliminary results from Kendall County.

The overview

Ritchie is running against Laura Haning, former planning and community development director for the city. District 2 incumbent Sharon Wright is running against Joe Bateman.


Ritchie leads early vote totals with 691, or 75.44% of votes, while Bateman leads the District 2 race with 150, or 58.14% of votes.

Alongside city official races, Boerne has four propositions on the ballot to amend the city charter, including:


  • Proposition A: Increase City Council members and mayor term from two to three years.


  • Proposition B: Remove language in the charter about other elected officials in the city, as there are no other elected positions other than City Council.


  • Proposition C: Change the procedure for filling City Council vacancies to comply with state law for cities with three-year terms, as opposed to the current two-year terms, requiring that City Council appoint a council member if a vacancy occurs in a position with less than 12 months remaining.


  • Proposition D: Require a review of the city charter every 10 years, reviewed and approved by the voters.


All propositions are supported by the majority of early voters, receiving more than 70% of votes in favor.
