Danya Comley named principal of Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School
Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School will have a new principal at the start of the 2025-26 school year, following a June 16 decision from the Boerne ISD board of trustees.
Danya Comley, current assistant principal at Voss Middle School, will serve in the new role.
According to a June 18 news release, Comley is entering her 20th year in education, and joined Boerne ISD in 2016 as a teacher at Boerne Middle School North, moving on to become assistant principal at Curington and assistant principal of Voss Middle School.
Jessica Shults, Lauren Sanders appointed as Boerne ISD school principals
On June 9, the Boerne ISD board of trustees filled principal vacancies at Mark Tyler Voss Middle School and Viola Wilson Elementary School.
Jessica Shults, currently the principal at Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School, was approved as the principal of Voss Middle School, and Lauren Sanders, currently the assistant principal of Boerne High School, will become principal at Viola Wilson Elementary School, according to a June 9 news release.
Boerne ISD approves balanced budget, plans for tax rate election
The budget for fiscal year 2025-26 was approved by Boerne ISD trustees June 16.
Approved unanimously, the budget this year does not have an anticipated surplus or shortfall.
However, the district intends to pursue the first-ever voter-approval tax rate election in November, which will help support teacher salaries and provide funds for capital improvements outside of bonds and other funding mechanisms.
Boerne ISD announces purchase of 70-acre tract of land south of Boerne
Boerne ISD on May 20 announced the purchase of a 70-acre tract of land south of Boerne, located off I-10 and Old Fredericksburg Road.
According to a May 20 news release, the land will allow the district to proactively approach future growth.
While the property does not have a specific use, district staff and leaders will evaluate options for the property, including the potential development of a new school or athletic complex.
Boerne ISD reviews enrollment projections over next 10 years
Boerne ISD board of trustees on May 12 discussed future district growth and where potential facility needs will arise over the next 10 years.
During the meeting, trustees reviewed reduced enrollment projections over the next 10 years to see which campuses may reach capacity.
Overall, district staff said enrollment is expected to decrease slightly over the next year, due to fewer elementary students enrolling and the completion of charter schools in the area.
However, campuses across the district are expected to reach full capacity within the next 10 years, meaning district leaders will need to look into expanding campuses or alternative solutions to make room for students.
Boerne ISD utilizes state funding support for health care program
Boerne ISD was one of five San Antonio area schools to receive the Jobs and Education for Texans grant, which was awarded through the Texas Workforce Commission and announced by Gov. Greg Abbott’s office.
Boerne ISD Executive Director of Communications Maggie Dominguez said the grant funds were already received and spent, with the district reporting funding used during a May 8 conference.
According to Career and Technical Education Director Heather Willis, the funding was used to purchase multiple pieces of medical-grade equipment, including:
- A virtual anatomy table
- Phlebotomy arms
- Phlebotomy hand
- Phlebotomy chairs
- Programmable manikins
